The final post in the series about our Mini Quilt Challenge – Inspired by Artists.
Inspired by Clarice Cliff – Lesley Wilkins

Clarice Cliff is the artist who inspired me to make this piece of work. The colours and the geometric design drew me to use her work as a base.
Although I have no actual pieces of her work I now have a piece of art that will remind me of her.
The 12 x 12 square consists of an inset circle which I had never done before. The design was simplistically created and pieced with a little machine quilting and hand applique.
Inspired by Carlos Cruz Diez -Physichchromie Collection – Helen Hope

Inspired by a piece I saw briefly through the glass doors of a gallery in San Gimignano, Italy. Sadly, the gallery was closed.
I later discovered the collection changes with the light throughout the day and as you walk around them. I’ve tried to replicate this in the centre of the design, with a 3d structure changing from purple and pink to purple and green as well as shot cottons in the borders hoping to achieve a change in colour as you walk from one side to the other.
Inspired by Jean Miro – Judith Venning

This is a take on Jean Miro’s dream like painting. I love his use of basic colours such as red, blue and yellow and the use of curves to produce dream like effects. I struggled to attach the applique, but it worked out when I quilted lines close together, thus securing all the pieces.
Inspired by Bridget Riley – Denise Gould

I love Riley’s use of colour, and her painting Set Fair contains so many different colours which I would not have thought to put together.
She creates movement across the piece by repeating colours, and I enjoyed attempting to recreate that effect. My quilt is English Paper pieced, with machine quilting.
